Boudoir Myths That Aren’t True
Boudoir photography has a lot of myths and misconceptions that just aren’t true. As a result of these beliefs, it prevents many people from experiencing all that a boudoir session has to offer. To me, boudoir is all about confidence, beauty, sensuality, and empowerment.
Follow along to bust some of these popular myths and ease your fears of booking a boudoir session.
Common boudoir photography myths
I have to be naked
It doesn’t matter what you wear, or don’t wear, to your session. The goal of boudoir photography is never to make someone uncomfortable. There are no expectations.
The boudoir experience is for YOU and nobody else. Even if you are gifting an album to your spouse, at the end of the day you will end up feeling more confident and beautiful.. Your spouse will just reap all of those benefits!
When you book a boudoir session with me, you will never be asked to do something you don’t want to do. I just want to be a vessel and your support to help you feel your best. If that is tastefully capturing you naked or in an oversized sweater I am all for it.
2. Boudoir is only for people that look like models
I hate this statement. Boudoir is for every body type, every age, and every type of person.
Anyone and everyone needs to experience what it feels like to love your body and feel their best. A boudoir photography session is an amazing way to boost your confidence. Think of it as a spa day. It’s just another way to pamper yourself.
Also, there is no need to worry about posing or what you’re supposed to do with your hands. That’s my job! I know how to make every body type look good. I’ll tell you what to do from your chin all the way to your toes. Read more about the Raegan Clapsaddle Boudoir experience here.
3. You have to be in a relationship to do a boudoir photo shoot
This couldn’t be further from the truth. As I have mentioned above, boudoir can be a perfect way to boost your self-esteem or celebrate a special time in your life.
I’ll give you some examples:
You are going through a rough time and you need something to make you feel better and excited about something again.
You are hitting a milestone. It’s your birthday, you’ve hit that weight loss goal, you escaped from a toxic relationship, you got a new job.
You’re a mom and you want to take the time to do something for yourself in your busy life of taking care of everyone else.
4. I’ll be judged for it
Boudoir is a very personal experience whether you are nude or not, so it is normal to possibly feel that fear of being judged.
Saying that, it can be your little secret if you want it to be. Your images will not be shared unless you are okay with showing them off! I require multiple forms of permission from you before I use them on my website or socials. Look at a couple of the amazing and beautiful women I’ve taken pictures of in some of my galleries here.
On the flip side, it’s not for anyone but you to decide what you want to do and what makes you feel good!
5. I’m not skinny enough or I’m too old
Get those negative thoughts out of your head, girl. You are perfect and wonderfully made no matter the age or the number on the scale.
There are so many things we stop ourselves from doing because we tell ourselves we aren’t worthy of it or ready. That’s what these sessions are all about: celebrating yourself.
I do understand though. Almost all of us have something we don’t like about our appearance and it’s hard to embrace it. Before your session, we talk about things that you may feel less confident in so that I know the best poses for you and I know to make sure those things aren’t front and center in your photos.
So have I talked you into it? Are you ready to take the leap?
I hope this blog has helped you bust some of those boudoir myths. Gift yourself an experience you’ll never forget.
