What to Wear to a Boudoir Photo Shoot

I know, choosing what to wear for your boudoir session is oftentimes overwhelming. With so many options to choose from, it’s hard to narrow down your choices.

The first rule is to choose something that makes you feel beautiful. You look your best when you are confident! The second rule is to try and not overthink it. Get a good idea of the different vibes you want for your photoshoot, then start compiling different outfit ideas. From there, it will be easier to make your final choices.

Keep reading to see which outfits could be best for your Raegan Clapsaddle Boudoir session.

A couple tips to start:

  1. Again, choose something that makes you feel good about yourself, whether it’s sexy, pretty, or beautiful. You can’t go wrong with outfits that brings out your inner glow.

  2. Wear what is best for YOU! Just because boudoir is stereotypically all about lace and lingerie, that doesn’t mean it’s right for your boudoir photo shoot.

  3. Think about going up a size when choosing lingerie that may dig into your skin, creating bulges. It happens to all of us!

  4. Clothing that hugs the body, vs. oversize clothing, is most often easier to photograph. I am skilled at posing you in a way that is most flattering for your body type. Embrace your curves, and rest assured, I will hide what you want me to!

  5. Think about who this session is for. Is it for your spouse or is it for a celebration of yourself? Choose your outfits according to what you want to get out of it.

  6. Solid colors are usually better than eclectic patterns. This rule applies most of the time, but lets say you have a basic background and want something more fun on your body, then of course go for it!

Bodysuits are always a top choice.

Bodysuits are one of my go to recommendations for outfits. They are great for women that need to warm in to their photo shoot before showing more skin. Or, on the flip side, it’s a great option as a finisher for clients that are more conservative, but still want something that shows off their body.

There are soo many bodysuit options you can choose from. Think about your everyday bodysuits that you wear with jeans, to something more revealing that’s sheer or lacy. Both are great options!

Bra and Panty Sets

You can’t go wrong in a bra and panty set that you love. You usually know your fit and how to best support your breasts and you can get creative with the kind of underwear you choose. Normally, my clients prefer thongs or cheekies.

I always recommend pairing it with a garter belt and thigh highs to add an extra spicy factor to your images. This is also a GREAT option when ladies want to hide their stomachs. Another option to cover more tummy is to wear high waisted panties.

T-shirts, Sweaters, and Jackets

Okay, hear me out. I don’t know what first came to mind, but picture a white crop top with some under boob showing, or white tee in the shower, or a shirt from your spouse’s closet, or a sheer top.

A sweater and underwear can be a cozy choice for your boudoir session. Normally, client’s prefer an oversized sweater that falls off of the shoulder. I will be posing you to look your best, but be careful to choose a sweater that doesn’t make you look extra boxy or bigger than you are.

You could also wear a jersey or athletic wear.

Also, a jacket or kimono can be a cool vibe too! This is another popular option. Layer it over a pretty bra and panty set or go nude with just the jacket.

Going Nude

It is important to note that I am not an erotica photographer. BUT I am always up for photographing you nude for your photo shoot. These can be implied nudity or not. Posing nude brings an extra level of sensuality and confidence to your shoot. Not to mention, if you are gifting the images to your partner, they’ll surely cherish looking back at your beautiful, bare bod!

Sometimes, definitely not always, some women feel vulnerable and going nude is out of their comfort zone, but I promise you are in good hands. I only do poses and prompts that you are comfortable with. Remember, this session is curated to what YOU want out of it.

Accessories and Themes

I am up for any vibe that you want to do in your photo shoot. For example, if you are a country girl at heart and want to wear a cowboy hat and boots, I’m all for it! Or if you want to set up a certain kind of theme, like a dark and candlelit bathtub scene, I love to get creative with my boudoir photography.

Here are some accessory ideas listed below:

  • Heels: A great way to elongate your legs, especially if you are shorter! Heels can be a fun, sexy addition to your boudoir session.

  • Jewelry: Keep it simple! Remember, you are the subject of art in the photographs. Studded earrings are normally better than dangly ones if you plan to keep them in all session, because in a lot of your poses you will be laying down. Bracelets and necklaces can be a nice touch, depending on the outfit, but again, don’t overdo it.

  • Hats: As mentioned above, a cowboy hat is a popular option. Think about your style and if you are a hat girl, then go ahead and bring it!

Personal Touches

Just like any other kind of photo shoot, I encourage you to stay true to who you are! A fun way to make the shoot feel more like you is to incorporate something personal.

One way to do this is to have the session in your home. What is more personal than that? You could bring a book if you love to read. We could book at a location with plants or do an outdoor session if you love all things nature.

There are so many options. What makes you, you?

On the other hand, if you are doing this session for your spouse, what is special to them? You could bring a special necklace they gave you, wear their shirt, or even take some pictures on their favorite chair.
